Biodiversity on Portsdown Hill

Everything we do on the hill is aimed toward restoring and maintaining species-rich calcareous grassland, whilst retaining a mosaic of scrub and coarser vegetation. The results are highly visible, and it is particularly gratifying to meet 'locals' who have walked over the hill for many years, and who notice and comment upon the improvement of the past few years.

Much of the life that is currently found on the hill has been photographed, and species-lists have been compiled. We are building photographic Albums of the life, which can be found by following the menu links and selecting "Album" for each classification. As every photograph shown here has been taken on Portsdown Hill, mainly by volunteers, some of the images are not up to professional standard. These will be updated as better images are taken - or offered.
