Conservation Volunteers on Portsdown Hill

Without the efforts of a loyal team of hard-working and dedicated volunteers, the continued success of conservation management of Portsdown Hill could not continue.

Where and When

Most Wednesdays and some Sundays (generally, the 3rd Sunday of the month), the Portsdown Hill Conservation Volunteers meet for an enjoyable day of varied tasks, which can be seen throughout this website.

The main group work every Wednesday between 10am and 3:30pm. On a typical wednesday, 6 or 16 people may be out, depending on season, weather and anything else that affects our decision. We usually working between 10am and 3:30pm on a Wednesday, with tea provided at the first break: but please bring your own lunch! We meet just before 10am at Fort Widley, and new volunteers are always welcome. (That's the fort above the QA hospital, just west of the Churchillian pub; use the east entrance, as the other is a riding school).

There is no expectation of working every Wednesday, or even for the whole day. If it suits your time better to spend just a few hours with us, those few hours will be appreciated.

The Portsdown Hill Conservation Volunteers usually work on the south side of the hill, from the east of Porchester, westward as far as the area opposite the Churchillian pub, and above the QA hospital. Occasionally, work is done on the walk around Fort Widley itself, which is the base of operations.

There are also opportunities to help out at other times. For more information contact Richard Jones or phone him on 023 9238 9623.
