Free guided walks

Meet at the East gate of Fort Widley. Wearing walking boots is a good idea. Bring something to eat and drink and don't forget your waterproofs. Children and dogs welcome.

Wednesday Workdays

Volunteers meet every Wednesday to help with a variety of essential maintenance tasks. Meet at the East gate of Fort Widley at 10am. Tasks end at about 3.30pm, so bring lunch if you can stay all day.

Third Sunday in the Month Workdays

Similar work is done once a month on the third Sunday (but not usually in August). The next date is 20th July. Meet as above.

Walks 2008

Cliff Holmes leads a series of walks exploring the local area.
Whilst we take every step to ensure your safety, please take care and wear appropriate clothing and footwear.

Saturday 20 September 10.30am - Portsdown
Meet at the entrance to Fort Nelson car park for a walk in the north-west area of the hill - 5 miles.

Saturday 25 October 10.30am - Portsdown
Meet at the east gate of Fort Widley for a walk on north and east area of the hill - 5 miles.

Saturday 29 November - 10.30am - Horndean
Meet at public car park, above the fire station for a walk in Blendworth and Catherington areas - 5 miles.

Saturday 20 December - 10.30am - Denmead
Meet at the public car park on the corner of Kidmore Lane for a walk in Denmead and Hambledon area - 3 miles and afterwards for mince pies at 14 Lugano Close, Waterlooville, tel 023 92262202. Mince pies will be served from 12 noon for non walkers or if walk is cancelled due to bad weather, all welcome.

Evening Talks

Between September and April we have monthly meetings on the second Wednesday at the Church of the Resurrection hall, Brecon Avenue, Drayton, starting at 7.45pm. The entrance fee is £1.

Wednesday 12th November : Andrew Perrin, an expert on local history, on "Purbrook Park and Widley"

December : no meeting

Wednesday 14th January : Jon Stokes, from the Tree Council, on "Trees and the British Landscape"

Wednesday 11th February : Robin Gorman, from the Clanfield Observatory, on "A Journey to the Stars"

Wednesday 11th March : Rosemary Webb, an expert on flowers and fungi, on "Orchids of the Eastern Mediterranean"

Wednesday 8th April : Annual General Meeting
